The class of 2013 held its second annual class ring ceremony Thursday, Dec 8. Students seemed to be at a loss for words, but there was plenty of emotion to go around. Ties and dresses were abundant and so were smiling faces as the much anticipated day had finally come.
“It is a special day when it comes time to receive your senior ring,” Assistant Principal Jay Ratcliff, the keynote speaker, said in his speech to the audience.
Each student was asked to select a special teacher to present their ring to them in front of their families and friends. Mothers wept at the sight of their children crossing the stage to receive their ring, and many of the students were jubilant and screamed with joy as they opened their box and laid eyes on their ring for the first time.
“When I looked at my ring, I was like oh my gosh, and was very excited,” junior Kayla Farrias said.
After the ceremony, students gathered to compare rings and discuss how it felt to finally receive their class ring.
“It felt good to finally get my class ring,” junior Casey Shewmake said.
Some students had chosen the color of the stone in their ring for reasons other than the school color, such as birthstone, or even favorite color.
“I coordinated my purple vest and tie to match my ring because purple is my birthstone,” junior Jacob Garcia said.
Joining the class of 2012, the class of 2013 is just one more step closer to being just the second graduating class and beginning the journey of life.
