The last Friday of November marks the biggest shopping day of the year in the United States. The stores are crowded for big deals. Black Friday, the day where some are in all day and when some are out until stores close. The question is, is going out on Black Friday really worth it?
Traffic is usually backed up for miles, especially in big shopping areas, due to crazy drivers and congested parking lots. Stores like Walmart or Target usually open at 6 a.m, on Black Friday, so it is best to wake up early to try to beat as much traffic as possible.
Black Friday sales used to be huge. Sales used to be as much as 90% off, but now sales are not as big due to inflation. There are sales like buy two, get one free, some people may say that is a good deal, but it is not worth going through all that traffic because it is still paying the price that should be the cost of three items.
Overconsumption has been a huge thing recently as well. There are all these trendy products being brought and marketed by influencers. Everyone wants the next new thing. People are buying things they truly do not need just because it is “trending right now.”
For example, the Stanley cup was a trendy thing that people were buying but now that it is not trending anymore, people do not carry them around or use them as much. It is barely heard about anymore.
With the overconsumption, waking up early, and sales that are not as good as they used to be, Black Friday is not worth it. Maybe try going to the sales in stores throughout the year where it is less crowded and stressful.
