The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is releasing in three consecutive volumes throughout the months of November and December to gain major traction for the fan favorite sci-fi series. With the series coming to a close after almost 10 years, many fans are excited yet nervous for the upcoming episodes, expecting the highest stakes yet and the most suspenseful moments for the entire TV show.
“What I like about Stranger Things is how it mixes normal life with totally crazy supernatural stuff and it makes sense,” sophomore Madison Martinez said. “The characters feel like real people that I know, so it’s easy to care about what happens to them.”
Filming for the first season of Stranger Things began in 2015, making this year 10 years of filming and seasons. This time period is longer than other shows due to the sudden outbreak of Covid in 2020, which delayed the filming of season three and furthermore delayed the timeline of all five seasons as a whole.
“I love all the characters, but Nancy and Lucas are my favorite,” Martinez said. “Nancy is smart, brave and terrifying in the best possible way. She is a character who takes charge and never waits for permission.”
Season five of Stranger Things features beloved characters that we have grown to love fighting one last battle in the quaint town of Hawkins, Indiana, where nothing is what it seems, and evil lurks just underground.
“I love Stranger Things because of the characters and complex plot lines,” junior Emma Ball said. “It’s nostalgic for me because I used to watch it when it first came out.”
Stranger Things started as a story about friendship, kids and a world upside down, yet as the seasons progressed, the world got more and more intense. Every season raises the stakes for the many characters. For season five, many are expecting heart wrenching deaths and shocking plot twists.
“Now since my older brother is in Oregon on mission for my church, I watch it with my family.” Ball said. “It’s a great family show.”
In the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, the plot focuses on the final battle against Vecna in the fall of 1987. Their main goal is to find him and kill him in order to restore peace to Hawkins and end it all once and for all.
“I love the friendships,” Martinez said. “They fight, and mess up, but when things get serious they always pull it together. It feels really genuine and comforting. It mixes cozy vibes and chaotic moments at the same time.”
