Why do you enjoy cheerleading?
I enjoy cheerleading because my friends make it fun and football games are really fun. I also love tumbling, it’s fun but it also hurts sometimes.
When did you start cheering and why?
I started cheerleading in 2014 when I was four years old. I wanted to cheer because I was in a dance class and I liked the tumbling. All I had fun doing was the cartwheels, but the actual dance I found boring. My mom took me to Wylie Elite and got me signed up for cheer because she thought I’d like it.
Tell me about your competitive cheerleading (what recent competitions and travel?)
We’ve gone to Orlando around five times and Houston twice. I’ve been to Kansas City, New Orleans and Atlanta. We got first place in NCA in Houston and first in majors in Indianapolis.
What do you consider your greatest strength, and what is one area you need to improve?
My greatest strength is tumbling, and I would like to improve on being more versatile and doing more skills.
What makes the cheer team successful?
We are compatible as a team. We all can successfully work together and not clash with each other.
How do you balance schoolwork, cheer, and other responsibilities?
I try to do most of my homework during school so I don’t have to do it after school, since that’s when I have practice. We have school cheer practice in the morning so that helps.
What is your favorite stunt to perform, and why?
A rewind because it’s fun when the flyer flips. I also like one and a half up, which is where you start in a sponge and the flyer does one and a half spin to a limb.
What are some ways to encourage student attendance at pep rallies?
I remind all my classmates to come. Adding tumbling in routines makes it more enjoyable for the audience. The team tries to have a lot of energy.
What are your goals for cheer?
To cheer in college, win Worlds and NCA again.
What are your plans for after high school?
To cheer in college at DBU or Tech and to get a cheer scholarship. I’d probably major in business or business management.
