Students honored at luncheon

Students gathered for the first luncheon of the year, a big event to commend the students who did academically well the first nine weeks Nov. 6.

“We did this to recognize students for outstanding academic success,” Principal Mike Williams said.

There were two sessions. One at 11:50 a.m. and another at 12:45.

For the first hour Williams spoke to sophomores and juniors, the second hour consisted of freshmen and seniors.

“Students who demonstrated characteristics of the Wylie Way were given an award that explained what they did that a teacher appreciated,” Williams said.

Students were served pizza as Williams spoke. He told the students to live their dash, every day was a new chance.

Freshman Erin Baum was surprised when she received the character award for responsibility.

“I really thought I had gotten this award for Spanish, so I was surprised when I found I had received it from Mrs. Lannan for human geography,” Baum said.

Each teacher was only allowed to nominate one person.

“I had so many students to choose from,” journalism teacher Casi Thedford said. “They’re all exceptional photographers and journalists, but eventually I finally narrowed it down to a few people, and from there one person for each of my preps,” Thedford said.
