Smile For The Camera \\ Student Officers Fiona Nguyen, Caden Ly, Sophia Luu, Jennifer Nguyen and Alex Tran host the first ever Asian Student Association meeting in order to spread Asian awareness and culture. “I am really excited to start a new club and spread awareness about Asian culture,” Luu said.

A new club has appeared on campus led by President Sophia Luu, Vice President Fiona Nguyen, Secretary Jennifer Nguyen, Historian Alex Tran and Treasurer Caden Ly, called Asian Student Association. Their goal is to spread knowledge about all the different Asian communities and countries that are represented in our school.

“The student officers that created the club are really deciding what the goals and the purposes are,” Sponsor Alicia Kam said. “But one thing they want to do is spread knowledge about Asian communities and countries that are represented in our school, and they want to do a little education about those communities in the club meetings. They also want to host club meetups for boba or other things.”

The ASA plans to host meetups outside of school hours, in hopes of allowing people to interact with each other and learn more about Asian culture.

“Other than going out to get boba, we will have other events such as festivals or fundraisers to talk more about Asian awareness,” Luu said.

Before the meeting ever began, expectations weren’t very high on whether people would come or not. However that worry would be long forgotten because over 50 people attended the first ASA meeting.

“Our expectations weren’t very high, but honestly, right now we are extremely happy with how it turned out and at the beginning, there was a whole line outside,” Luu said. “It’s overwhelming to say the least.”

The club has been in the works since last year, leading the student officers, with no prior experience, to figure out and plan on how to make the club official.

“We founded the club this year,” Luu said. “We have been planning on founding this club since last year, and I was working really hard to figure out how to do this and start this and how to do everything. It was all really new to me, and I’m glad that it happened.”

ASA plans on meeting twice a month on Friday and will be posting any changes in their Google Classroom.

“We’re planning on meeting twice a month, on the first and third Friday of every month. We will usually be meeting in room 124, but that’s subject to change,” Luu said.
