Participants set aside the time to honor those who have fought for the country during the Veterans Day ceremony at Wylie ISD Stadium Nov. 11.

Reserve Officer Training Corps members from both Wylie high schools took place in the ceremony welcoming the many guests attending as well as being given the honor to speak to the audience.

“Today we honor [our veterans] and say thank you for serving us,” Ariel Mavis, the Kitty Hawk Air Society Commander, announced.

Local decorated veterans attended the parade, standing idle or in the stands. Those who had served before World War II, through the Korean War, Vietnam War, and those serving in the present stood and were honored with several notions.

“Veterans are our honored guests today, [who have] made the sacrifices that allow us to be here,” Colonel Wayne Wilbanks said.

Cadet members presented flags representing the Coast Guard, Marine Core, and Air Force by veteran representatives, to honor those who have served in these armed service branches.

The traditional pass and review took place towards the end of the parade, where ROTC members of both high schools marched their way around the track, with the introduction of commanders and sergeants, before returning to their positions on the field.

“It was amazing to see both of our high schools’ ROTC working together to honor those who have fought for us,” senior Garrison Whadford said. “Without our veterans, we would not have the country we’re living in today.”
