Junior Emma Cox starts the archery club

Aiming to make an archery club after taking Coach Jay Jones’s Outdoor Adventures class, junior Emma Cox spent several weeks getting signatures, finding a sponsor and finally receiving permission for the club.

The club has yet to decide when it will meet, but it will meet in room 252 when not shooting and on the East side of the gyms when shooting.

“The ultimate goal is to do competitions next year,” club sponsor Chris Bailey said. “It’s for people to have fun and learn a new skill,” Bailey said.

Since a bow is considered a weapon, students are not allowed to use their own bows but instead will use the Outdoor Adventure classes’ equipment. There are hopes that this will change in the future.

“The best part about archery is learning how to shoot and the thrill of getting a bull’s-eye,” junior Emma Cox said.

The club looks forward to fundraisers to buy its own bows for competitions as well as a community breakfast or dinner for a service project.

“I hope to get this club really big and for people to carry it on for years and years,” Cox said.

There is a make-up informational meeting April 23. For more information contact Emma Cox or Mr. Chris Bailey in room 252.
