Future raider night brings sisters together

They may not be wandering the halls yet, but at Future Raider Night, the class of 2022 got to undertake in the Friday night spirit.

Future Raider Night was at Wylie Stadium during the football game Sept. 8. Middle schools zoned for this campus came to get a taste of the high school life by collaborating with their counterparts. The McMillan Dazzlers and the Burnett Sweethearts teamed up with the Sapphires during the halftime show; the cheer team combined forces with the McMillan and Burnett cheerleaders, and the Pride of the East linked up with both bands from each middle school.

Students partaking in football games got to witness their younger siblings participate in Future Raider Night. Sophomore Jazmine Garcia, a baritone player, witnessed her younger sister, trumpet player Jocelyn Garcia, experience what it’s like to play with the high school band.

“She [Jocelyn] did a great job,” Jazmine said. “She had fun and that’s the most important part.”

Jocelyn chose to express herself through music, and her sister [Jazmine] played a huge part in her choice of electives.

“I don’t think I would’ve thought of band for my elective if Jazmine hadn’t chosen it herself,” Jocelyn said. “I’m thankful she did.”

The nervous anticipation for high school is ecstatic during the final years of middle school, but Jocelyn maintains a calm connotation of high school because of her sister.

“A lot of what I know about high school is through my sister,” Jocelyn said. “She gives good advice.”
