Do yawns cause chain reactions?
Stephanie Shepard’s Human Growth and Development classes participated in an activity focusing on theories.
Each group came up with a theory that can be proven or disproven, such as “a raised hand will result in a high five.”
Each group was allowed to roam the hallways testing their theories and collecting the information.
“Whenever I see someone yawn, I instantly yawn too,” senior Josh Radkowski said.
Some of the theories were “If you yelled ‘hey!’ Someone would turn around,” and “If you pushed someone randomly, then they would get upset.”
Students were not allowed to go into classes or disrupt other students. Many students took to the halls to find passing students to test their theories.
Each group was to describe its theory and hypotheses. They also had to record whether or not their theories were accurate.
Many of the hypotheses proved to be correct.
“I love that the students get to put into action the things that they have learned in class,” Shepard said.
