Number Four is something more

Number Four is something more

They walk among us like ordinary people. There are nine of them. Number Three was just killed. The next to be targeted, will make a difference… according to I Am Number Four the movie. Released February 18, 2011, the movie thrilled many viewers with the captivating action scenes and romances that wooed the crowd. The movie is adapted from the written book series collaborated by James Frey and Jobie Hughes.

From the actual novel, there was another planet sustaining life, Lorien. The Mogadorians set out to destroy this planet and as they did, only nine children of Lorien were sent to earth. Why nine is uncertain. They can only be killed in sequence and three are already killed. John Smith (Alex Pettyfer) is number Four. John befriends conspiracy theorist Sam Goode (Callan McAuliffe) and falls in love with a beautiful face who happens to be novice photographer Sarah Hart (Dianna Agron). It just so happens to be that her ex-boyfriend, Mark James (Jake Abel), is just like every bully out there in how he often torments both John and Sam for their oddities. The interaction between the teenagers is carefully balanced as John battles fitting in with the high school students.

The killers are out to destroy all nine of the teenage aliens in a cliché kind of hunt. Number Four, played by the ever so handsome and stunning Alex Pettyfer, witnesses this through the burning of his legs while in an ocean, slipping shock into the minds of some viewers watching. The action is confusing for a moment for those who have not read the book, but this is later explained when Number Four regains conscious.

Number Four, takes the screen as he tries to fit in as an everyday human teenage boy. Directed by D. J. Caruso, the movie wowed kids and adults alike with the teenage Lorien seeking normalcy, while also hiding from the bad guys out to destroy him. I Am Number Four rages on as the Mogadorians hunt down John Smith.

The love interest between John and Sarah can clearly be seen as the movie continues, showing the two flirting in between the constant hunt for John’s life. Romance on the horizon leaves the normal everyday teen interest in the cinema.  The suspense begins when John and Sarah are trapped inside the school, the Mogadorians surrounding the school. Here, the audience is introduced to Number Six who helps John battle their humorous enemy though by doing so breaks the chain protection in which they can now be killed out of order.

Some could possibly call this movie as typical as a Hercules story with the boy falling in love and trying to save his world from evil. The movie has a lot of straight forward events that leaves the viewer wishing for more detail or even a little more challenge for John.

The movie ends with the commander of the Mogadorians being destroyed in a cliché manner of instant death, though according to the later events, the battle isn’t over. John and Number Six take Sam while John says goodbye to Sarah for now, bringing a sad love story to the viewers.  The action packed film brought forth love, a desire for normalcy, and even signs of a raging war on the horizon. Four out of five stars can be given to this movie, mainly due to the lack of information during the film. This reviewer certainly recommends the movie.

See you on the big screen Raiders,
