Student fans banned from basketball games due to sportsmanship

What started with pajamas and “snoozing” ended with student fans banned from any future basketball games.

“Come to the Wylie East basketball game tomorrow in pajamas to sleep on Denison,” senior Cole Freda tweeted Feb. 5.

Students showed up decked out in pajama wear so that they could “sleep on Denison” to support a home basketball game.

The home side student section is right behind where the visiting team sits.

Some students in the student section tried to distract and make comments to the other team, the coaches and the trainers during the game. Some students believe that what they said crossed the line.

“I don’t only feel disappointed in them, but also am disappointed because they are degrading our school with the way they portray us,” senior Caroline Witty said.

After the game some student fans sang “Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye” by Steam because they lost. Those students were then banned from basketball games for the rest of the season. (There was only one game left in the season.)

“They waited outside the bus but didn’t do anything too ridiculous like getting on it,” senior Tate Wood said.
