Art students go to VASE

Art students lined the halls of Rowlett High School waiting in anticipation to get their artwork judged at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event Feb. 13.

Forty three art students woke up bright and early to set out for the annual VASE competition.

“It’s a little bit intimidating,” art student Kiersten Crenshaw said.

VASE is an annual art competition for students in the visual arts program that allows them to get recognition for the art that they created.

“I think Vase is a great opportunity for young people in the visual arts program to be able to attend a competition where they can get constructive criticism, good feedback. It lets other people see their work and be surrounded by other students their age who have a passion for the arts as well,” art teacher Atlanta Tigert said.

Students from different districts compete against each other for a chance to go to State.

“You have the opportunity to medal, you have the opportunity to go to State. I mean those are big things,” Tigert said.

Now with state coming up students, Cari Reinert, Shelby Wolfe and Lesley Howard prepare for their next judging in San Antonio April 23.
