AFJROTC seniors take trip to San Antonio
As the journey of high school comes to an end seniors from the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps take their annual senior trip. This year they went to San Antonio. This trip is unlike most trips that AFJROTC normally takes. The directors came along as more of chaperones and teammates rather than actual instructors.
“We had a lot of fun, it was nice to just get away for a few days and have some fun,” senior Breanna Figuly said.
The trip was four days long. Over the span of those days the seniors went to Lackland Air Force Base, Six Flags and Big Lou’s Pizza, at which the seven of them shared a 42 inch pizza.
While at Lackland Air Force Base, they got to attend a basic training graduation.
“It was like the Veterans Day Pass and Review that we [ROTC] hold each year but on a grand scale,” AFJROTC instructor Wayne Wilbanks said. “There were over 700 people compared to the 250 that we have.”
As well as the graduation, they were also able to watch new trainees as they were brought into basic training.
“The man at Lackland who cuts the trainees hair for basic told us that he has given about one million haircuts in his lifetime,” senior Jonathon Holland said.
The seven seniors who went on this trip all have similar mindsets of what they want to do after high school; pursue a career in the military.
