October is Principal Appreciation Month. Be sure to express gratitude to the five principals who help this school run smoothly.
This is Mr. Casey Whittle’s first year as an assistant principal. Dr. Donna Edge has been an assistant principal the longest of the four APs. Mr. Shawn Miller cracks many jokes for a school official. Mr. Keith Kirkpatrick came over from Wylie High two years ago. Finally, Mr. Mike Williams was a coach prior to his current leadership role. Here’s another side you may not see often:
- 1. Halloween is coming up. What are you/would you dress up as?
Whittle – Mickey Mouse.
Edge – Minnie Mouse, because my granddaughter is dressing up as that.
Miller – A Raider!
Kirkpatrick – A disco dancer, with the bellbottom pants and wide silk shirts and everything.
Williams – Mickey Mouse.
- 2. Why did you choose to be a principal?
Whittle – To help a large number of students be successful.
Edge – Also to help students.
Miller – I felt I could do more than just in a classroom.
Kirkpatrick – Honestly, it paid more! But really, I could do more for students as an assistant principal.
Williams – To have a greater impact on students.
- 3. Who’s your role model and why?
Whittle – Dr. Edge. Seriously, she’s my mentor!
Dr. Edge – Ted Moore, superintendent of Lovejoy.
Miller – My teachers. When I was in school, they embodied the idea of helping kids.
Kirkpatrick – Tom Landry, the head coach of the Cowboys. He’s a principled man.
Williams – My father. He set a great example.
- 4. What’s your favorite thing about East?
Dr. Edge – The students.
Miller – The kids and the teachers.
Kirkpatrick – The kids, they’re bright and respectful.
Williams – The Raider Nation Spirit!
