Students launch potatoes to learn about projectiles
Smoke of the compressed air lingered long after the potato had landed. Sounds like a crazy mad scientist experiment, right?
Using pvc pipe cannons and pressured air, Ross Pruit, David Shipp and Eric Best’s Physics classes were given the opportunity to get hands on experience in a potato launching experiment.
“We launched the potato and we measured how far it went and how long it took,” Junior Jackie Brown said.
The classes measured the distance of the potato, after being shot from the cannon and how it varied with different angles and air pressure. Students recorded the data for their lab write-ups.
The classes split up on both sides of the field to ensure accurate results.
“When I was in high school, I had Dr. Best and I didn’t get to do this,” inclusion teacher Haley Love said.
