A celebration of academic studies in a friendly competition, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) district meet was last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Multiple students placed at district. Amber Kirkpatrick placed third in News Writing, Rey Tran placed second in Calculator Applications, Ana Meraz-Villarreal placed sixth in Prose Interpretation, David Leal placed fourth in Ready Writing and Khristopher Riddall placed sixth also in Ready Writing.
Kirkpatrick and Tran will advance to regionals in April to compete for a place at state in their respective events.
“I was so surprised and excited,” Tran said. “I didn’t believe that I got a chance to go further.”
For the students going to regionals, the preparations continue as they have since day one of competition.
“I know that there are a lot of people better than me,” Tran said. “I will practice more and do the best I can.”
Kirkpatrick has competed in journalism UIL events for three consecutive years.
“It is an honor to place in the top three,” Kirkpatrick said. “I’m excited to see how I do at regionals.”
