At 4 years old, most kids start speaking in more complex sentences, start running around and start to understand basic math skills. This four year old is already in high school and looks just like anyone else.
Freshman Brooklyn Tyler has the only leap year birthday in the school. At four years old she is the youngest member of the Raider Nation.
Every four years there is an extra day added to the month of February. Babies born Feb. 29 are leap year babies and only have a true birthday every four years.
“This year I’m going to go home and spend time with my family,” Tyler said.
Normally, Tyler celebrates her big day Feb. 28 on non-leap years. If Feb. 28 was her real birthday, she would be 16.
“My grandma and I, when it’s not leap year, have birthdays on the same day,” Tyler said.
Having one birthday once every four years is unusual and rare, for the majority of society who has a birthday every year, it can be confusing.
“It’s pretty cool, but you have to explain it to everyone because they don’t know,” Tyler said. “They think it’s cool because you’re unique.”
