AP Science students and Dr. Edge joined together to lay carnations on the grave of Frank Ovid Birmingham at the Birmingham Graveside Memorial in honor of his memory Tuesday. Birmingham died at a young age while he was working in an oil factory.
“If it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have what we have now. It’s cool to be a part of the history,” junior Cassi Springfield said.
When he died, his father made a trust fund with the district. In return the students visit his grave. Without that tribute, Wylie would not be able to have the high schools and the technology or the math and science courses that are provided today.
“It was really peaceful visiting the gravesite,” junior Mark Pollard said.
