Entering the woodshop room, among the buzzing saws and squealing sanders, standing just over eight feet, is a giant dinosaur posed to attack. After recovering from a mini heart-attack, you realize that it’s made of wood.
“I like assigning projects that interest and challenge the students,” Woodshop instructor Tony Roseberry said.
The seventh and eighth period woodshop classes have been sawing away at their dinosaur for a little over a month.
“We spent two weeks planning it and a little over a week building it,” Junior Alejandro Vega said. “Mr. Roseberry just told us one day that we were going to build a dinosaur and that was that.
There was a purpose behind the dinosaur, however. Students learned to incorporate many of their different skills into the one project.
“These types of projects include math, science, computer skills, design, tools and building skills to get them accomplished,” Roseberry said.
The colossal creation has been a team effort. With the amount of work required for a project of monstrous proportions, everyone has to do their part.
“We’re just all doing pieces, and putting it together.” Junior Eric DeLeon said. “And now it looks done to me.”
When they’re done with their wooden wonder, they want to donate it to Dodd Elementary to represent their mascot, the Dodd Dinosaurs or put it up around school.
“I want to build another and make them fight,” DeLeon said.
