Varsity boys soccer advances to playoffs

The boys varsity, soccer team went undefeated in district securing a place in playoffs.

The first playoff game the boys defeated Frisco Heritage 2-1.

From winning that game they went on to face Rockwall Heath also winning with a score of 4-2.

Only one more win was necessary to get into the semi-finals and then eventually the State Championship game. The team won the semi-finals game against Jacksonville High School with a score of 4-1.

In the finals, the team fell to the Lufkin Panthers 4-3, ending the boys’ dreams of winning state.

“We were sad that we didn’t make it to Georgetown but proud we made it this far,” senior Filip Janjic said.

The boys have practice every morning until first period. They practice five days a week on the football field behind the school.

“I feel like waking up at 6:30 every morning paid off,” senior Ivan Benavides said.

Only two ninth graders were on the original varsity team.

“I feel pretty good. I’m glad we can make it this far as a freshman,” freshman Skylar Foreman said.
