Got tutorials?

Ditch homeroom and return to East

The new ‘homeroom’ system fails to allow students proper time for tutorials unless they have time before or after school, but many students have work, extracurricular or a lack of rides.

Homeroom needs to be reconstructed so that it works in favor of both teachers and students.

In the past students could have gone to a teacher during an ‘EAST’ period for tutoring or to make up tests or quizzes. This was very helpful if students missed school because it presented more opportunities for them to meet with teachers and understand what they missed. It was also helpful in how it provided teachers with time to tutor students who needed extra help or to have time for club meetings that did not require extra school hours.

While homeroom is supposed to be more like a family environment and give students a chance to meet new people and get some homework done, it does not provide enough time to truly get homework done or build relationships among students. If students are going to get along, they will get along without the help of school.

The school should reinstate EAST on Tuesdays and Fridays. Contact those in charge and ask them to return to EAST time.

The revival of EAST, while keeping some of homeroom, would benefit everyone and allow homeroom’s goals to continue.
