The yearbook staff received it’s annual critique from NSPA, the National Scholastic Press Association, for last year’s yearbook, volume XII led by Editor in Chief Maddie Smith.

The critique is a written evaluation of work submitted by a publication. Professional journalists, experienced media advisers and other media professionals serve on the NSPA board of judges.

The judge reviews the entire yearbook and writes comments and scores the publication in several different categories such as coverage, writing and design. The composite score from all sections gives the publication an honor rating ranging from Third Class to All American.

WEHS’ yearbook, The Dynasty, got a “First Class Rating” with 464 points out of a possible 500. The book received three marks of distinction for essentials, design and photography.

“The staff and adviser are to be commended for all the work that was done to create a publication that represents the school community so well. The theme was carried through with phrases and graphics,” stated the NSPA judge. “There was strong photography, and coverage of many aspects of the school year with stories and designs. Continue to follow guidelines of style, visual and verbal standards that make a yearbook well-done.”

This year’s yearbook was just ‘put to bed.’ The staff completed the final pages March 16. Even with the current coronavirus pandemic, the yearbook is expected to arrive on time and be distributed in May.
