In the future these boys and girls will protect this country but for now they compete for the title of best drill team. ROTC held its first drill meet Feb. 1.
Nineteen ROTC groups from districts across the state came to compete against one another. The drill meet is held as a training, builds relationships with other schools and is a fund raiser.
Sergeant J.J. Smith acted as the coordinator for other schools and held the practices for his own team.
“We practiced three times a week,” Sergeant Smith said. “This was the best drill meet ever.”
ROTC’s Sabre team placed second and got praise from the judges.
“I thought we were super organized,” freshman Zachary Stegman said.
Colonel Wayne Willbanks was proud of his cadets and all the hard work the team put in.
“Our kids did the best,” Willbanks said. “This drill meet taught leadership and responsibility.”
