The wrestling team spent their day wrestling for spots at Regionals Thursday, Feb. 4.

Each team member had to wrestle opponents from within the District, around three to four matches each.

“It was a tough tournament but I’m proud of our team for coming out on top,” said senior Dylan Hoffard.

The wrestling placed third overall out of eight teams in the district, beating about rivals like Wylie High and McKinney North.

The top four wrestlers in every weight class get to advance. Nine wrestlers will advance to Regionals.

Junior Dayrion Jackson came in first place overall in his weight class.

Seniors Aaron Gassett and Dylan Hoffard, and freshman Geronimo Saucedo placed second overall in their weight classes.

“My competition is always tough and there’s one guy who always beats me,” Hoffard said. “But next time around, he’s not going to.”

Seniors Frank Rodriguez and Zech Peltier, and junior Aram Amin placed third overall in their weight classes.

Juniors Zane Zercher and Gabe Casey placed fourth overall in their weight classes. Senior Paul Savage will serve as an alternate for his weight class; he fell short at fifth place.

“I was upset at first but glad that I get to advance to regionals. State is the goal,” said junior Zane Zercher.
