Senior Halie Daniel commits to Sam Houston State University

Competing in shot put and discus events since her sophomore year, senior Halie Daniel is a two time region II finalist. She also claimed district and area championships last year.

“Halie is a wonderful student athlete who has a tremendous amount of ability,” track and cross country coach Jason Olford said.

Claiming second in regionals allowed her to place on the UIL state track meet. She is the third Wylie East athlete to qualify for State in track and field.

“She has the opportunity to repeat as a State qualifier this season, ” Olford said.

Daniel committed to Sam Houston State University after being offered a scholarship for track. She is the eighth Wylie East athlete to get a Division I scholarship, a full scholarship to a college with elaborate facilities and the ability to play in the D-I league.

“I committed to Sam Houston because they have an amazing Criminal Justice program and because I love their track program,” Daniel said.
