Sophomore Miles Read started playing hockey at the age of 4 when he was enrolled in Dr. Pepper Stars Mini Mites. Under the influence of his dad, Miles began to have a passion for the game.

“I really love hockey because it’s the type of sport that keeps you on the edge of your seat,” Miles said.

He travels all over the United States and Canada. His favorite place he has been so far is Vancouver, Canada.

“I really loved Canada because it’s a pretty place and it’s always cold to play hockey,” Read said.

He also plays for the Dallas Elite Hockey Club on the U15 AAA team.

“I like the team I’m on know because it’s very competitive and I get to show my abilities to Division I scouts and professional teams,” Read said.

Miles plays for Lovejoy ISD’s summer league during his off season. He’s been on junior varsity since eighth grade and varsity since last summer. This was the first year they had a varsity team combined with Plano East and won the championship against several other school districts.

“I also love hockey because it’s fast paced. I loved being on the ice in Vancouver, BC, Canada,” Read said.

Last year Miles was also on the Dallas Stars Elite U14 AAA and won the division championship to go onto Nationals. Miles attended Texas Affiliate Camp for the last two years and was invited to Rookie Training camp for WHL Team Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, Wash. as a 15 year old. He was also just invited to the Air Force Academy this past June.

“Miles was part of the Texas roller hockey team where they play the best players from each state in a national tournament. He was selected multiple times as an all-star and North American,” Miles’ dad, John Read, said.

Miles’ next tournament is Oct. 15. In Michigan.
