Loss of helmet causes varsity football player to suffer multiple injuries

Before the varsity team won 49-47 against the North McKinney Bulldogs, Corey Gentle (10) had a serious blowout.

“Before I felt like I was for sure going to make a touchdown, that was the only thing in my sight, and then after I was shocked my tooth broke.”

Yards away from scoring a touchdown, Gentle lost his helmet and mouth guard during a tackle. He planted face first, into the turf.

After having teammates and trainers run to his aid, Gentle broke two teeth, fractured his jaw and damaged his right pinky.

“I really wanted to cry because I could see how much pain he was in,” teammate Tim Fry said. “I love all of my teammates to death but Corey and I have a bond which cannot be broken.”

After leaving the game with a mouth full of gauze and seeing five doctors, Gentle still says that he is going to play in the crosstown showdown against Wylie High Oct. 3.
