Senior signs with university to play baseball
Hitting it off with Recruiter Micah Graves has given Senior Bryar Barnes the opportunity to sign with Murray State University in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.
The signing took place in the media center May 1 with Barnes’s parents, coaches, friends and teammates in attendance.
Barnes joined the varsity team his freshman year of high school and has been a starter on the team all four years playing right-hand pitcher, third base and catcher.
“He’s grown a lot as a person and as a player,” Coach Heath Andrews said, “and it has been great seeing him grow up through the years.”
Ironically, Coach Andrews also coached Graves at Naaman Forest High School.
“He caught two line drills at third base against Rowlett High School for the district championship in 2006 that otherwise would have cost us the championship,” Andrews said. “We call him the ‘Eagle Killer.'”
The varsity team recently made playoffs after a 13-0 district season and will play Mt. Pleasant in their first playoff game May 3.
