Varsity wins Homecoming game against Sherman Bearcats
Homecoming week is always crazy and has players busy and sometimes distracted, but Friday night the boys really had their game together. Playing against the Sherman Bearcats was an exciting game to many of players.
“Beating Sherman was very huge considering they beat us last year,” sophomore Jared Wyatt said. “It was bittersweet knowing that we got payback on them, and for us to win on homecoming was even better.”
Beating the Bearcats was a key win for the team’s playoff hunt. The team was victorious with a score of 38-14.
“We have high expectations hopefully going into the playoffs considering nobody believed that we would have a successful season,” Wyatt said.
With a 31-14 point lead in the fourth quarter, senior Danny Kown got to run in the last play of the game. Kown was crowned Raider Royalty during half time.
“My favorite part of the night was getting in the game and having everyone chant ‘We want Danny,” Kown said. “It felt like no other feeling. I just can’t describe it.”
The team believes they have all improved as a family. They have learned to trust each other and play together as a team.
“We’ve found our swagger as a team that really holds us together,” senior Josh Prince said.
Welcoming the alumni home with a win, former D1 starters such as Quan Jones and Marcell Ateman revisited their old stomping grounds.
“It was good coming home and seeing that Raider Nation is doing good and winning games. Raider for Life,” Ateman said.
The boys are currently 2-0 for district with four games left. They hope to continue their winning streak.
“Coach always says ‘If you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse,’” sophomore Braden Shewmake said.
