Varsity football beats Wylie High third year in a row
Tensions were high, adrenaline was pumping, and energy was surging during the crosstown showdown Oct. 4. The game against rivals, Wylie High, is the biggest game of the year for all of Wylie.
“Everyone wanted to go out and play with all they had,” senior Garrett McCain said.
The crowd is always full of excitement and both schools are ready to fight.
“We were ready. Nobody believed that we would win so we played with a chip on our shoulder,” sophomore Jared Wyatt said.
The past two years Wylie East varsity has won against the pirates with final scores of 63-7 and 46-38.
Oct. 3, JV had a final score tying 20-20 and the freshman team defeated them 49-0.
“Tying is like kissing your sister, but it’s better than a loss. Both teams played a great game,” JV corner Justin Bailey said.
For the third time, the varsity won once again Oct. 4 with a final score of 35-28.
“Our intensity was a stand out. We looked faster, smarter and stronger. In the end we were better in those areas,” McCain said.
Coming out with the victory in football was not the only victory the East side took home. They also won Chick-Fil-A’s crosstown chowdown, bringing home a $750 scholarship for the senior class of 2014.
“Everyone was jumping, high fiving and hugging. We were all smiling and wanted to stay on the field as long as possible to soak up the moment,” McCain said.
