The ‘White’ stuff: freshman Aubrey White makes varsity

The White stuff: freshman Aubrey White makes varsity

Five seniors, four juniors, two sophomores, two freshmen, the boys varsity basketball team started their season by adding new names to the roster. One of top freshman players is point guard Aubrey White, averaging 10 point a game.

White first started playing basketball at the age of four.

“The very first time I picked up a basketball was when I got a play court,” White said.

The first few seasons, he says he was the best player on his little league team.

“Basketball became important to me when I was in the seventh grade,” White said.

When making A-team in seventh and eighth, he realized then that he was good.

White worked hard that summer before ninth grade playing AAU basketball for the Dallas Truth Trojans in an effort to get the coaches’ attention when the school year started.

“I wasn’t expecting to make varsity, but I was ecstatic when coach told me I had made it; one of my dreams came true,” White said.

All of his hard work and dedication finally paid off.

“I have been playing basketball with Aubrey for the past two seasons,” another freshman player, Braden Shewmake said. “He is a great person and a good player. He is always the first person in the gym and the last to leave and I am looking forward to playing another season with Aubrey.”

Aubrey started his preseason off as a starter gaining lots of playing time.

“I like playing with the older guys. I feel comfortable,” White said.

“I like to listen to drake, 2 Chainz and Meek Mill with my teammates as a way to get hyped before we play,” White said.

As the season progressed and the games got harder, his season suddenly went downhill. White went from starter to sitting the bench, then from varsity to the freshmen team.

“Coach told me I lost my confidence that’s why I got moved down, when he felt like I got my confidence back, then he moved me back up,” White said.

On the freshmen team, he played only two games before securing his spot back on varsity.

“I didn’t like getting moved down,” White said

Back on varsity with the season over, he still didn’t get the playing time he wanted.

“I don’t like weekend practice but I am going to have to work hard to prepare for next season,” White said.
