JV girls bring home 3rd at soccer tournament

The girls JV soccer team participated in the Ice Bowl Tournament Jan. 19-21. The girls placed third overall.

The Lady Raiders faced South Grand Prairie at J.J Pearce High School Friday, Jan. 20. It did not help the Lady Raiders in the tournament. The final score was 0-0.

The girls faced Irving High at Berkner Stadium Saturday, Jan. 21. The Lady Raiders had to at least win by three points to move on to the next round. Katie Porter, assisted by Ebony Jones, scored the first goal with 19:30 left in the first half. That led them into the half with the score 1-0. After halftime, the girls put up a hard fight, which led to their goals later in the game. Ebony Jones and Brooke Lopez did a give and go and Lopez finished the point, making it 2-0 with 7:25 left in the second half. The girls needed one more point to get the amount they needed to move on in the tournament.

With 4:40 left in the game, Sarah Wright, assisted by Molly Cannon, scored the one last point they needed to move on, making it 3-0.

The girls did not just stop trying after that third goal. Leasa Points, a defensive player, scored another goal making their final score 4-0.

The girls got to move on to the finals playing for third place. Six hours later the Lady Raiders played against Cedar Hill at J.J. Pearce High School. It was a cold night the girls had to endure.

“Although it was cold, it was definitely worth the soreness the next morning to win,” Defender Alexis Stewart said.

No points were scored on either team until 56 seconds left in the second half. Shirley made an amazing shot on the opposing team and put a point on the board. Then, the girls didn’t stop there. Porter got a break away and took the ball to the goal with 30 seconds left and scored the second point of the game making the final 2-0.

The girls came out victorious to put them in third place overall in the tournament.
