On August 30, 2021 the annual Homecoming parade took place in which various sports, clubs, and organizations came together to celebrate Homecoming week and compete with one another for the best float. First place was awarded to softball for their Dr. Seuss themed float, second place was given to Leo Club with their float made to symbolize diversity, and third place went to baseball for their float representing famous baseball stadiums around the globe.

Varsity softball player Ashtyn Nagel marched alongside her teammates dressed as a variation of Dr. Seuss’s “Thing One” and “Thing Two,” with her costume reading “Thing Four.” This costume was used as a way for the players to incorporate their softball numbers while staying on theme.

“My favorite part about the parade was being able to celebrate our win with my team and work with them on our float,” Nagel said. “It created bonds within our team and helped us to grow closer with one another.”

Leo club came in second place with their float celebrating diversity and this year’s homecoming theme, “Around the World.”

“Because this theme was ‘All Around the World,’ we wanted our float to represent that,” Leo Club member Avery Farris said. “We wanted to show diversity, and that the diversity we have is a good thing that should encourage us to come together to find and celebrate the good after all the bad that has happened within the past couple years.”

“I was so excited, because it was the first time that Leo Club had made a float, and we had some incredible help making it happen. I’m so thankful for a club that comes together to work on things like this and bring togetherness.”

The teams and organizations came together in preparation throughout the month to plan, build, and construct their floats, as well as spend time with one another and create memories as a group.

“I was so excited, because it was the first time that Leo Club had made a float, and we had some incredible help making it happen,” Farris said. “I’m so thankful for a club that comes together to work on things like this and bring togetherness.”

The winners were announced at the stadium where the coronation took place that night. The winning teams got to spend the rest of Homecoming week celebrating the results of their hard work and efforts.

“We were super excited when we won because we had worked hard for several weeks to plan out every little detail, and it symbolized our first win of the year.” Nagel said.
