TikTok on the clock
Sapphires receive thousands of views on popular social media site
August 28, 2019
As the social media platform TikTok takes teenagers by storm, one organization is making their mark on the app, amassing over 100,000 views in a single week. The Sapphires went viral after posting a short video filmed in the dance room.
For those who may be unaware, TikTok allows its users to post up to a minute-long videos that often feature humor, dancing, crafts and challenges. In this case, the video consisted of a pre-existing audio that declares “you’re the only friend I need” with the team bouncing along to it.
“I came up with the idea after I was scrolling through my feed and one of the girls that I follow had a similar TikTok but with only four of her friends, so I thought to myself, ‘I have 37 best friends so it would be so cute to do a TikTok with them,” Sapphire Captain Berry Stevens said. “I also knew that all the girls on Sapphires love TikTok so it was a match made in paradise.”
Since posting, the video has amassed almost 150,000 views, more than 22,200 likes and 232 comments, and can be seen here.
“It feels pretty crazy to have so many people from around the world see my video. There were people commenting in a whole other language which was pretty surreal,” Stevens said. “It makes me super happy to know that I went viral off of a video with all my best friends in it. Plus, it was so fun to make.”
