A calm pond with a sunrise, some fish and ducks flying overhead describes an ordinary day for Fishing Club.

Fishing Club is a brand new organization for students who love to fish. Go to room 851 if you would like to join. The club meets every Friday from 12:37 – 1:07 p.m.

“It’s something you can do to relax,” sophomore Seth Palmer said, “Escape life for a brief moment and have a better day.”

The students plan to fish in bass tournaments through Texas High School Bass Association. In these tournaments they can advance to regionals, and THSBA Championship.

“There are a lot of schools in the area that already have fishing clubs,” Fishing Club Sponsor Lisa Curry said, “We are very excited to finally get one here.”

Colleges like Texas A&M University, Texas State University and Texas Tech give out scholarships for fishing. Each having their own bass fishing team that competes in fishing competitions.

“Some colleges now have teams and give scholarships for fishing,” Curry said, “The kids try so hard in hopes of getting one themselves.”

Fishing Club will have its first competition at Lake of the Pines Feb. 25.

“Fishing club really pulls us students together,” Palmer said, “In the end we’re all just a bunch of anglers that love what we do.”
