Students and faculty were encouraged to step up to the Student Council’s kissing booth to receive a kiss from behind a curtain. Even Principal Mike Williams participated, getting a kiss from junior Amanda Kounlavouth.

“I think it is cool and unique to have a kissing booth to inform kids about consent,” Kounlavouth said.

STUCO’s “Consent Kissing Booth” was set up at the front of the cafeteria during lunches Feb. 18. Anyone who came up to the booth and asked for a kiss, was given a Hershey’s Kiss and a slip of paper with a topic discussing healthy relationships.

The kissing booth was put together in celebration of Love is Respect Week. The topics on the handouts that were given with the Kisses were all focused on setting boundaries, consent and different types of abuse.

“It is a unique experience to have in high schools, because it helps kids understand boundaries and healthy relationships,” senior Sarah Lam said.

Student Council’s next event is the talent show March 29.
