This year, Interact Club was awarded Interact Club of the Year for their hard work in helping the community around them. Each year this award is given to a school based on the number of service projects they have completed. The award was presented to the club at the 2014-15 Spring Fling in Sunnyvale, Texas.

Interact Club is a part of Rotary International’s new generation program for ages 12-18. Locally, Rotary Clubs sponsor schools to provide guidance and support. The club is self-governed and led by attendance clerk Dalila Bruner. Through the club, students develop leadership, respect, individual responsibility, hard work and personal integrity skills.

“It’s a fun experience to help out and find a purpose by reaching out to the community,” club member Ilse Munoz said.

Interact’s service projects raised money for programs and other organizations such as Wylie Children’s Medical Clinic, youth shelters in Nicaragua and Guatemala and Global End Polio Now Fund.

“Interact Club has taught me to be more thankful for everything I have,” Club Treasurer Lesly Villegas said. “It’s given me a better perspective of the world around me.”

However, not only was money raised, but the Club donated its time to participate in events such as Creekside Estates creek clean up, elementary school’s PTA activities, ringing the bell for Salvation Army during the holidays, and sorting out shoes for orphanages.

Also, Interact Club members continued their annual tradition of making mums for students like they have for the past three years in a row.

Through hard work and service projects, the purpose of Interact Club is to further international understanding and good will.

“Helping others is something that is really important to me and gives me a sense of purpose,” Club Historian Kayla Corley said. “I get to serve with a family of kind, generous friends who come together for one common goal: helping those in need.”
