Cheerleaders make it on TV while attending Rangers game

The cheerleaders attended a Rangers game May 7 to bond with their new coaches and teammates. They did not know then that they would end up on TV.

The cheerleaders soon caught eye of the game recorders and got them to come over to them. The recorders were fond of the fact that they were cheerleaders and wanted to put them on TV. The cheerleaders chanted “Let’s Go Rangers” as the camera recorded them.

“I thought being on TV was awesome. We are TV stars,” Special Ed and Varsity Cheer Coach Caryn Seed said.

Some of the freshman cheerleaders informed Jim Knoxx, the cameraman, that they could tumble and Knoxx found it interesting and told them he wanted to put that on TV as well.

Knoxx came back to get the cheerleaders around the sixth inning to get their tumbling on camera. Knoxx is more in charge of the after show than while the game is on so when he checked to make sure this was okay, the other cameraman told them they could no longer at that time as a result of the Rangers losing by too much.

“It was really cool to see all the cameras and the Fox News sports spokesperson there filming us and talking to us,” freshman Meghan O’Brien said.

The after show camera man told the cheerleaders that they would not be able to do it at that time but they could during the after show of the game. As the cheerleaders waited for the after show they got to sit in the closest seats rather than where their seats originally were.

“I was disappointed when we were told we could not do our original plan but I was still satisfied with being on TV as part of the Rangers game after show” junior Ivy LaPorte said.

As the Ranger game came to an end, the Rangers lost 9-2 to the Rockies, it was time to film the after show. The cheerleaders were on TV once again but they were not able to do the original plan of the ripple tumbling. Kati Klakamp talked on camera as the rest of the team stood behind her. That was good enough for them though.

“Being on the Rangers Postgame Show was really cool because I was representing our school and WEHS cheer,” Klakamp said.
