New graduation cap tradition implemented
In earlier years seniors have not been allowed to decorate graduation caps, but this year they are allowed to with the college emblem, mascot or name of the college they will attend.
Senior Caitlin Walker and a few other seniors got this tradition initiated.
“The basic rules of decorating the cap were appropriate and classy,” senior Caitlin Walker said.
The Class of 2014 will begin this tradition and leave a legacy.
“I love the fact that we are the first class to get this project started because we got to share something from our graduating class on to the next,” Walker said. “When we look back we can say as the Class of 2014 we left a legacy for many to remember.”
Principal Mike Williams said that the assistant principals told him to stop being so “old-fashioned.”
“It makes it more fun,” Mr. Williams said.
This new tradition is thought to give underclassmen something to look forward to as another senior tradition.
“I think that it could establish a sense of encouragement to choose a school and show them college is an exciting part of life,” Walker said.
Walker chose to decorate her cap with Texas A&M.
“I absolutely love my cap. I am so thrilled for graduation now,” Walker said. “People will be able to see that I am going somewhere and I have plans for the future. We will be able to see everyone else’s caps as well as see how we are all are preparing for our new lives.”
Graduation is June 7 at the Allen Events Center.
