American Idol, an American dream starter for singers across the country, just got a hometown contestant. Junior Libby Villegas got the chance to be a part of a life changing experience.
“I have watched every season since I was six,” Villegas said. “It has always been a dream.”
Villegas auditioned at open call Aug. 7 and had a full schedule starting at 5 a.m.
“I sang ‘Roxanne’ by The Police,” Villegas said.
Villegas didn’t get the chance to audition in front of the judges seen on TV. The judges at her auditions were producers.
“They seemed very interested at my first audition. They liked my style and were surprised I sang about a hooker,” Villegas said.
While auditioning for the first round everyone auditions in groups of four. Each person sings for 30 seconds.
“I was the only person in my group that made it to the next room,” Villegas said.
The second round while auditioning everyone auditions alone and only sings for 20 seconds.
“They seemed very uninterested in my second audition,” Villegas said. “They told me I was still young and they just didn’t feel like I was ready for this season.”
Villegas was part of the top 200 people who made it from the Austin audition, but did not make it past the second round. She plans to audition again in the future, but plans to wait a few years.
“This was a great experience,” Villegas said. “But I’ve never been so emotionally drained in my life.”
Villegas placed second in ‘East’s got talent’ in 2013 and plans to perform again in the 2014 show.
