NHS hosts Winter Wonderland Dance

National Honor Society members follow along to a line dance at the Winter Wonderland event Dec. 20 to celebrate the upcoming winter break.

The cafeteria was decked out with white and blue balloons, icy tinsel, twinkling lights, sweet treats and a DJ playing great hits from the past to the present. National Honor Society hosted the annual Winter Wonderland Dance for Life Skills students to celebrate the winter break Friday, Dec. 20.

The night started at six while the guests arrived and walked down the decorated stairway. Craft tables with ornaments the students could paint and coloring pages of winter themed scenes were scattered around the cafeteria.

“It was awesome to see the smiles of all the kids when they started to make crafts and really get into the dancing,” junior Samantha Ragsdale said. “I really enjoyed my time dancing along with them.”

The dance floor went crazy as a circle started to form around students showing off their dance skills. Many line dances inspired them to get together and enjoy the classics.

“The dancing was great,” junior Madison Jennings said. “It was so sweet to see how their faces lit up when all eyes were on them.”

Even some of the janitors that had stayed late to help clean up after the dance, such as Judy Allen, joined in on the fun.

“It really showed how much they cared about the kids and the dance,” Jennings said. “Some of the janitors didn’t have to stay late and help with the cleanup but did just out of kindness.”

As the night wound down everyone went home with a smile from a fun filled night. Family members thanked NHS for the great dance as they walked out to start the winter break.

I’m Brooke Vincent, fan of Twenty One Pilots, Panic at the Disco and Bear Hands. You can take that as bands or that I just really love multiple pilots, anxiety at parties and paws for hands. Either way I won’t be offended. My life revolves around journalism, I work at The Wylie News and frequent Mrs. Thedford’s class at least four periods a day. I enjoy traveling to faraway places like the Colosseum in Italy and Stingray City in Grand Cayman. This spring break I will be taking a cheesy tourist picture in front of the Eifel Tower and another in front of the London Eye. I have no shame. Hopefully I can be one of the reasons that our staff wins awards and recognitions for top quality reporting and our ability to keep our students informed about not only changes in the school but also what’s happening in the world around us.
