New tech theatre teacher comes from off-Broadway background

Backstage hands are arguably one of the most important jobs in a play, and the new tech theatre and theatre teacher has earned her status as a superstar.

Bekkah Lynch has worked on several Broadway tour shows. For a year and a half she toured as the National Props Manager for “Motherhood the Musical.”

“I opened shows in Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas,” Lynch said. “My favorite part was working on the scenic painting and props.”

Lynch studied at the University of Texas at Arlington and received her degree in theatre in 2008.

“I worked as a freelancer doing lighting for theatre shows and corporate events,” Lynch said.

Through her career she was able to meet people who were just as passionate about theatre as she was.

“I went all over the country meeting amazing theatre people,” Lynch said. “I have lots of happy memories and met a lot of really talented directors, choreographers and actors.”

All careers have their ups and downs and after a while Lynch was tired of moving all over.

“The irregular hours and the amount of traveling was no longer something I wanted to do,” Lynch said. “I come from a long line of teachers and always hoped to settle down and teach what I love.”

Lynch decided to settle down and become a teacher just like the long line of people in her family.

“I think that the fact that she has a lot of personal experience helps us to relate and understand her class,” freshman Kaitlyn Dusek student said.

Although Lynch likes to be part of the theatre program there are some aspects of her old life that she misses.

“My favorite part of opening a new show is seeing how the audience reacts,” Lynch said. “For Motherhood the Musical people would laugh and cry and even dance and it was such a good feeling knowing that I was a part of something that could help people escape from the stress of everyday life.”

Brooke Vincent, Editor in Chief
I’m Brooke Vincent, fan of Twenty One Pilots, Panic at the Disco and Bear Hands. You can take that as bands or that I just really love multiple pilots, anxiety at parties and paws for hands. Either way I won’t be offended. My life revolves around journalism, I work at The Wylie News and frequent Mrs. Thedford’s class at least four periods a day. I enjoy traveling to faraway places like the Colosseum in Italy and Stingray City in Grand Cayman. This spring break I will be taking a cheesy tourist picture in front of the Eifel Tower and another in front of the London Eye. I have no shame. Hopefully I can be one of the reasons that our staff wins awards and recognitions for top quality reporting and our ability to keep our students informed about not only changes in the school but also what’s happening in the world around us.
