Will rival on field affect rival in barn?

In previous years the Future Farmers of America organization and the Wylie High School FFA have been combined into one, representing the city of Wylie. This year, however, it is a different setting in the organization.

The rivalry between the two schools already plays a big role in the community, especially during football season. In result of the high school split, the barn stalls and pins have been split up in order to separate the schools’ animal projects.

“I’m against the split. The two schools are already rivals on the field. We need to group together and become a family,” East senior Kaitlyn Horton said.

Both agriculture programs have been taken over by new teachers.  Former East teacher Mrs. Teresa Dudley changed her teaching curriculum from agriculture classes to construction.

Dudley’s position has been replaced by the new ag teacher Mr. Tracy Vernon.

“I left ag to have more family time and to enhance my professional development,” Dudley said.

The split is bringing negative attention to animal care. It is thought that that students in both organizations may tamper with the animals in order to beat the other high school.

“I think the animals are going to be targeted to mess with in order for others to succeed in the shows,” Horton said.

The annual Christmas party and end of the year banquet are normally held together in

the Wylie High School cafeteria. Now that the schools have split the events that have been

together in the past will also be separate.
