Lacrosse plays in all conditions

Bruised, battered and bloody is normal for 15-year-old Alline Snow. The sophomore has been playing lacrosse for six years, and is used to these conditions.

Lacrosse is a game played with a rubber ball and a long hockey like stick with a net at the end. The objective is to cradle the ball down the field and shoot for a goal.

“People think you can just pick up a stick and play. It takes a lot of years to master the game,” Alline said.

Lacrosse has helped the Snow family build stronger relationships with one another.

“Lacrosse gave Alline and her dad an activity to bond over since they both had to learn how to play together,” Snow’s mother, Beth Snow, said.

Snow’s family has been very supportive of her playing lacrosse.

“My whole family has supported me on the sidelines, but my dad has helped coach and always is willing to practice with me,” Alline said.

Lacrosse has challenged Alline in all aspects of her life from school to hanging out with friends.

“Lacrosse has taken away a lot of Alline’s free time. She practices four days a week and she has managed to maintain an ‘A’ average,” Beth said.

The city of Wylie does not yet have a league for lacrosse, but Snow and her family hope that it eventually will.

“We have to travel back and forth to Allen for her practices, games, and team meetings,” Beth said.

For Snow, lacrosse has been more than beneficial to her life.

“Lacrosse always challenges me to be a better player, and a better person,” Alline said.

Go support Alline at her next game Feb. 22 at the Lowery Freshman Center’s track and field at 6 p.m.
