Where will I use this?

Have you ever been sitting in class and wondered “where will I use this in life?” I did. For example “When am I going to find the SAS (side angle side of a triangle) theorem useful?” “When am I going to use these bizarre, complicated equations?” The one’s math teachers do over and over, for what? The TAKS test?

But even then, it seems like all these problems and information are just there to take up space.

I found that a great deal of the teachers I asked said that they aren’t sure why we learn a lot of what we do. Sure, we need basic math skills. Don’t get me wrong, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication are necessary.

An example a pointless topic is graphing. Lots of teachers make students learn to do it, by hand for what? There are calculators for that. Another pointless topic is making geometry students learn about the bunny method. It’s bizarre how you have to circle around two triangles which are pressed together with numbers like x or y in either one, or measurements of each side part, then put dots wherever you passed the number and then put it in an equation. Sounds complicated right? It seems unnecessary to me, especially if I’m not going to ever use it again.

In my opinion, there’s no point in learning this meaningless brain bending math. The schools should just take it out and save all the students time, energy and brain space for other subjects which they might actually use.
