The pageant started out with flashing lights and the contestants flooded onto the stage dancing and showing off their moves to “Salute” by Little Mix then switching up vibe with “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea.
Boys from various student organizations gathered on stage for the annual Big Man on Campus beauty pageant.
After dancing to multiple songs, the guys gathered for a kick line.
Junior Alex Fowler represented football.
“It was amazingly fun, and I was surprised with the amount of freedom we had with what we did. It was definitely one of the highlights of high school,” Fowler said.
Then, each man came out on stage individually representing their club and dressed in their best athletic wear.
“I felt bold, but I was proud wearing something that represents military service,” senior Austin Byboth said.
After learning a little bit about each participant, the contestants showed off their individual talents in the talent portion of the show.
“My talent was cup stacking. I was really excited to show everyone my skills because it connected with everyone’s childhood, as well as mine,” senior Alex Sanchez said. “Although it was a mediocre performance, I had a lot of fun doing it. The crowd was super nice whenever I messed up.”
During intermission, the audience was asked to come down to the front and donate money in the jar of their favorite contestant.
“All together we raised over $440,” said junior Kinsey Potts; a theater student who helped run Big Man On Campus.
Who ever had the most money in their jar at the end of the night, would win “Fan Favorite” then all the proceeds would go to Promise house.
“It felt good to know people enjoyed my robot and my talent with designing it to be able to put a ball through a hoop,” junior Devin Crabtree, winner of Fan Favorite, said.
Mr. Heartthrob was chosen by the three judges; drill team coach Brittany Miller, front desk receptionist Tracey Archibald and Wylie East alumni Mandi Wilson.
After strutting their stuff in their formal wear, each man was asked a serious question that called for a funny answer.
“I wanted to be different than the rest, so I decided to wear a dress and sandals. I had so much fun with the event, and would definitely do something like that again,” said senior Josh Leveridge who represented the Sapphires.
Senior Orion Johnson was crowned and announced 2017 Big man on Campus.
