News about the upcoming 2021 Prom
April 7, 2021
2019 seniors got a regular prom, 2020 seniors never got a prom, and now 2021 seniors will get a modified prom.
There will be prom, but with masks instead of food and under the stars instead of fluorescent lights. This year’s prom is different, but at least there is one. Here is what to expect for the 2021 prom.
The prom’s theme is ‘Under the Stars’ at Southfork Ranch Saturday, May 8 from 8 p.m. to midnight.
“This year, prom will literally be Under the Stars at Southfork Ranch,” teacher Tammy Simmons said. “The class of 2021 will have their prom at the exact same spot where the infamous Cattle Baron Ball was held several times over the years.”
Tickets will be sold for $75 a person electronically in the library from April 6-20.
“Remote students can purchase tickets during this time as well,” Principal Tiffany Doolan said. “Just be sure to check in with the front office.”
There are three pavilions, open-air metal buildings, for prom. The first pavilion is set up for different picture stations, the second pavilion is the dance floor and the third pavilion is also for dancing and social distancing.
“Bring your camera,” Simmons said. “There will be lots of great photo opportunities for you and your friends. You will have drink tickets for bottled water or a soft drink. You will get to take a treat home with you.”
Each attendee will receive two tickets to redeem beverages throughout the night, but there will provide no food services.
“You are welcome to bring a date,” Doolan said. “All dates must be a current WISD student.“
Every student with a date must register their date with a form from office 805 or 108 starting March 25-April 1.
“This year’s prom is open to seniors and their plus one,” Simmons said. “Their plus one must be a current WISD student who will need to get a signature and business card from their Assistant Principal at Wylie High if they do not attend Wylie East High School.”
Each student is required to wear a mask along with appropriate formal wear. If a student needs a free prom dress, there is a pop-up shop in the library on March 31 from 12:30 to 1:30 and April 1 from 12:40 to 1:40.
“I am ecstatic that we get to have a prom this year,” Simmons said. “We have carefully planned an outdoor event that will ensure lasting memories of the end of your high school career.”
