The Wylie Independent School District revealed its top teachers of 2013 during the Annual Chamber of Commerce. After winning the prestigious honor for his campus, Physics teacher David Shipp went on to win secondary teacher of the year for the entire district Jan. 26.
Winners from the district’s campuses were nominated and elected by their peers in December.
“I was lucky I have only been teaching at Wylie East for three years,” Shipp said.
Shipp was at his brother’s wedding in Pennsylvania and unable to attend the banquet. He received his good news from his wife through Facetime from Skype on their cell phones.
“I’m proud to represent Wylie to my best ability,” Shipp said.
Shipp will advance to the next level in the Region Teacher of the Year. The judging for the regional honors is in July with winners being announced in August.
