Dragons and lore, fantasy and fighting, all can be found in the fifth installment of the Elder Scrolls game series: Skyrim. In a land where dragons are thought to be extinct, the players’ journeys begin in a cart on its way to their character’s execution, but soon after arrival, their lives are saved by a blood thirsty dragon. The enemy is consumed by fire and the beast’s pure destructive power, setting them free, but leaving them to fend for themselves. They must now embark on a quest to discover who has summoned these monsters and the reason for their sudden reappearance.

This interactive video game on Xbox and PlayStation has begun to take over the minds of not only the teenage population, but has also consumed a few teachers as well.

“I enjoy playing Skyrim; it has probably the best graphics I have ever seen for a PlayStation game. I couldn’t wait to play it when it first came out. My character is human and his name is Wolf,” Ross Pruit, Physics and Biology teacher, said, “My favorite part so far is when Lydia, a woman I won from a king, managed to get killed by a dragon, so I had to reset because she was carrying a lot of my stuff.”

Wishing to curb the obsession, Skyrim is altering schedules and priorities of some students. By embarking on quests and battling monsters, students begin to become overwhelmed with the interactive magic.

“I took two daysoff from work to just sit and play the game. I’m a major Fallout 3 guy, but Skyrim has changed my whole idea of the Elder Scrolls series,”Senior Cody Dean said, “I love playing as an Argonion right now, which is a lizard man, but my character turned into a werewolf so that’s been pretty epic.”

In addition to the type of character the player chooses, he or she can also choose to become part of different legions to complete their quests.

“I’m a Mage, which is a person of magic, but I’m also in an assassin’s group called the Dark Brotherhood, because I like to kill people. Which sounds really depressing and terrible, but I only kill the bad people because I get paid to do so,”SeniorMaranda Bethel said, “I killed this evil orphanage lady because she was a horrible person so I killed her–it was awesome.”

This game is available at any gaming store for $55.98.

DJ Brennan
DJ Brennan, Staff Writer
DJ Brennan is one of many names, but in regards to Newspaper she is most impressive. Thick hair in a graceful fall, blue-grey eyes open in an observant questioning of other people's mannerisms. A woman who wins all mental battles with her consistency, stubbornness, and conviction of the legitimacy of all her criticisms. Since there was no one to tell her otherwise, she went on in her brutal honesty; and held fast. It was she who never looked twice at an opinion once made; she who found ways of being kind that people didn't expect; she who is willing to accept a partnership rather than lose a battle. She only lost one battle--the filter of opinions. All in all her life is a busy one. She loves her job and enjoys manipulating the strings of the people surrounding her to insure excellence. She would sigh sometimes during the day, thinking that she had indeed helped the less knowledgeable from being a nuisance to the rest of the community. Written by her friend and peer Caitlyn Bogart.
